BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering: Build a DGCA-Ready Career in Aviation
India is the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market and it is growing fast. Airlines are expanding fleets, MRO facilities are multiplying, and demand for licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) is at an all-time high.
If you want a career at the heart of this boom,BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is the degree designed for you.
FMS Aviation Academy, in partnership with Alpine Group of Institutions, Dehradun, now offers India’s most career-focused BSc AME programme. You get a university-recognised degree plus structured DGCA AME license training.
BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (BSc AME) is a 3-year undergraduate degree that trains you in aircraft inspection, repair, maintenance, and airworthiness.
Unlike aeronautical engineering, BSc AME is fully operational and DGCA-regulated. It trains you to certify aircraft as safe to fly. No aircraft takes off without an AME’s sign-off. That is the authority this degree builds toward.
The programme at Alpine Group is affiliated with Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University and is structured to align with DGCA’s CAR-147 training framework. Students graduate with both an academic degree and a strong foundation for appearing in DGCA AME license modules.

Alpine Group’s BSc AME programme offers specialisation across four key streams, mirroring the DGCA licensing structure:
Each stream combines theory with practical exposure, and your final year includes hands-on training on live operational aircraft — one of the most distinguished features of this programme.
The 3-year, 6-semester programme is designed to build technical, regulatory, and practical competency progressively.
Year 1 focuses on aviation fundamentals — Introduction to Aeronautics, Aviation Industry Overview, and Communication skills — giving every student a strong base before diving into engineering specifics.
Year 2 covers core technical subjects including Aircraft Systems, Structural Mechanics, Avionics Basics, and Aviation Safety & Security Management. Students begin understanding the regulatory ecosystem under which every AME operates.
Year 3 includes a mandatory internship at DGCA-approved MRO facilities, Aviation Law & Aircraft Rules, and live aircraft practical work. The dissertation and hands-on project in Semester 6 prepares students for DGCA licensing examinations.
Many students pursue a standalone AME License course. BSc AME does more:
If you want to understand the pilot side of aviation and how it connects to aircraft maintenance, read our guide on Commercial Pilot License (CPL) training at FMS Academy.

BSc. AME is a 3-year undergraduate degree focused on aircraft inspection, repair, overhaul, and airworthiness certification. It is aligned with DGCA licensing requirements for B1 (Mechanical) and B2 (Avionics) categories.
You must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). A 3-year engineering diploma is also accepted. Age limit is typically 16 to 28 years.
The BSc AME at Alpine Group is structured in alignment with DGCA's framework. This enables students to appear for DGCA AME license module exams.
A standalone AME License course gives you only professional certification. BSc AME gives you both a university degree and the AME license training pathway, improving your salary bracket, global transferability, and employer credibility significantly.
Entry-level salaries range from ₹3 LPA to ₹7 LPA in India. With experience and full DGCA licensing, AMEs earn ₹7–15 LPA at mid-career, and ₹15–25 LPA+ in senior roles. International postings command far higher packages.
Students can specialise in B1.1 (Aeroplane Turbine), B1.2 (Aeroplane Piston), B1.3 (Helicopter & Power Plant), or B2 (Avionics) — directly mirroring DGCA's licensing categories.
Graduates work as Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Avionics Technicians, Quality Control Inspectors, MRO Engineers, Aviation Safety Officers, and Technical Managers at airlines, MROs, HAL, Airbus, DGCA, and defence aviation units.
