Home ATR 72-600 Type Rating: The Complete Guide for Indian CPL Pilots (2026) You cleared your CPL. You have your hours logged. Now comes the
Your pilot journey in India starts with one number. Before you register for DGCA CPL exams, apply for your Class 1 medical, or enroll in any flying school, you need your DGCA Computer Number — the unique ID that marks the official beginning of your aviation career.
If you’re confused about what it is, how to get it, or what comes next, this guide covers everything step by step.
FMS brings a no confusion guide, just the exact process you need to follow in 2026.
The DGCA Computer Number is a 10-digit alphanumeric ID issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to aspiring pilots who wish to appear for written exams under the Central Examination Organisation (CEO) of the DGCA.
Think of it as your permanent aviation identity in India. You’re allowed only one Computer Number per candidate in the Flight Crew category, and it’s valid for life.
Without this number, you cannot:
The Computer Number is assigned across all pilot licence categories — CPL, PPL, ATPL, and Flight Instructor Rating.

Many aspirants confuse the two. Here’s the clear distinction:
| Term | What It Is | Where You Get It | Purpose |
| eGCA ID | Your login credential for the DGCA digital portal | dgca.gov.in | Access DGCA services: medicals, licence applications, training records |
| DGCA Computer Number | Your exam registration identity | pariksha.dgca.gov.in | Appear for DGCA theory exams (CPL, ATPL, PPL, RTR-A) |
You need both. The eGCA ID comes first. Once registered on eGCA, you proceed to the Pariksha portal to apply for your Computer Number.
The eGCA portal is a one-stop shop for DGCA services. It replaced old, manual paper-driven processes. Every pilot in India must have an eGCA ID.
Every aspirant planning to sit for a DGCA pilot licence exam in India needs a Computer Number. This includes:
If you’re a student doing your DGCA ground classes — whether offline at a centre like FMS or online through a question bank portal — your Computer Number is what links your exam performance to your official DGCA profile.
Before you apply, confirm you meet these requirements:
Students who did not study Physics and Maths in 10+2 can still qualify through NIOS on-demand exams before applying.

⚠️ Important: A mismatch between the name on your form and your ID documents is the top reason for rejection. Double-check before submitting.
The process involves two portals: eGCA for your identity registration and Pariksha for your exam identity. Here’s the complete flow.
Open https://www.dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/ and click eGCA Login / Sign Up. Always use the official DGCA website to avoid fake sites.
DGCA has added MFA security. You will receive two separate OTPs- one to your mobile number and one to your email. Enter both to verify your identity.
Your unique eGCA ID will be sent to your registered email. Save this ID and password securely. You will use them throughout your entire pilot career.
DGCA introduced auto-generation of Computer Number for Flight Crew (FC) candidates. This means eligible candidates no longer wait for manual approval, the system now auto-assigns the Computer Number on successful registration.
Once generated, your Computer Number is displayed on the Pariksha portal and sent to your registered email. Store it safely. You will need it every time you register for a DGCA exam session.
Getting your Computer Number is step one. Here’s what follows:
1. DGCA Class 2 Medical: Apply for a Class 2 Medical Fitness Certificate through a DGCA-approved medical examiner.
2. Enroll in DGCA ground classes: Begin preparing for the six DGCA CPL theory subjects.
3. Register for DGCA theory exams: Using your Computer Number, register for exam sessions on the Pariksha portal. DGCA conducts exams four times a year.
4. Class 1 Medical + Flight Training: After clearing theory exams, obtain your Class 1 Medical and enroll at a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation (FTO) for your 200 flight hours.
5. Apply for your CPL: With cleared papers, medical fitness, and 200+ flight hours, apply for your Commercial Pilot Licence through the eGCA portal.

It's the best aviation academy for pilot training. I enrolled a few months ago, and I can proudly vouch that no other academy teaches a correct attitude of learning and development. The process starts on the DGCA eGCA portal (dgca.gov.in) where you create your eGCA ID. You then visit the Pariksha portal (pariksha.dgca.gov.in) and complete the Computer Number registration. As of October 2025, DGCA auto-generates the Computer Number for Flight Crew candidates after successful registration, no manual waiting required.
You need your 10th and 12th marksheets (scanned as PDF/JPG), a valid government-issued ID (Aadhaar or passport), a recent passport-size photograph, and a digital signature. Foreign, OCI, and PIO candidates must provide a valid passport. Make sure your name on all documents exactly matches your 10th marksheet.
With the auto-generation system introduced in October 2025, eligible Flight Crew candidates receive their Computer Number almost immediately after completing their Pariksha portal registration. Earlier, the process could take several days to weeks due to manual verification. Ensure your documents are error-free to avoid delays.
Yes. DGCA does not charge any fee for issuing a Computer Number. The application through the Pariksha portal is completely free. Be cautious of any third-party websites or agents charging a fee for this process — always use the official DGCA portal directly.
No. While you can start studying subjects before your number is issued, you will need it to register for DGCA exam sessions. FMS Aviation Academy guides all enrolled students through the eGCA registration and Computer Number application process. Explore our CPL Ground Classes.
Yes. The same Computer Number is used across all DGCA pilot licence categories — PPL, CPL, and ATPL. When you're ready for ATPL preparation after your CPL, you use the same profile on the Pariksha portal to register for ATPL exam sessions.

Rejection usually happens due to name mismatches, document quality issues, or incorrect file formats. Log in to the Pariksha portal to check the rejection reason, correct the issue, and resubmit. For persistent technical issues, reach out to DGCA at egcasupport@dgca.nic.in.
