Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Course: Build a DGCA-Ready Career in Aviation

India’s aviation sector is set to become the world’s third-largest market by 2030. Skilled aviation engineers are in short supply.

The Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Program is the smartest career move for a PCM student in 2026.

FMS Aviation Academy has partnered with the Alpine Group of Institutions, Dehradun to offer this flagship course.

You graduate with a B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering and a DGCA AME License, a dual credential no standard engineering degree offers.

What Is the Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Program?

The Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Program is a 4-year dual-qualification course. It combines a full B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering with the DGCA-approved Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) training pathway.

Most students pick one or the other. This program eliminates that trade-off. You study aircraft science and design while simultaneously completing DGCA module exams and live-aircraft practical hours. You exit with credentials for engineering, MRO, airline operations, and design roles — all at once.

B.Tech + DGCA AME License: Why the Combination Matters

A standalone B.Tech graduate cannot legally certify an aircraft as airworthy. A standalone AME licensee lacks advanced engineering theory.

The Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Program closes this gap. Graduates can sign off maintenance releases, lead MRO teams, move into design roles, and qualify for DGCA regulatory positions, a career versatility no single-stream course provides.

Course Details: Duration, Curriculum & DGCA Modules

Course Duration and Structure

The program runs for 4 years, structured as follows:

Year 1 — Engineering Fundamentals Mathematics, Physics, Aerodynamics, Basic Avionics

Year 2 — Aircraft Systems Theory Propulsion, Structures, Electrical Systems, Flight Mechanics

Year 3 — DGCA Modules + AMO Training B1.1 / B2 module exams; inspections on live aircraft at DGCA-approved AMOs

Year 4 — Maintenance Experience + Final Licensing Mandatory maintenance experience hours, DGCA license completion, final B.Tech thesis

DGCA AME License Streams — B1.1 and B2

Under the DGCA CAR-147 Basic framework, students specialise in one of two streams:

B1.1 — Mechanical Stream Covers airframe structure, powerplant, mechanical systems, and hydraulics on turbine-engine aeroplanes. B1.1 engineers certify airworthiness for mechanical maintenance on commercial jets. Candidates must clear 11 DGCA module exams.

B2 — Avionics Stream Covers electrical, electronic, instrument, communication, and navigation systems. B2 engineers are the backbone of modern glass-cockpit aircraft and are in rapidly growing demand. Candidates must clear 10 DGCA module exams.

Completing DGCA module exams and the required practical hours at a CAR-145 approved organisation leads to the DGCA AME License — the legal authority to certify aircraft as airworthy in India and internationally.

Eligibility & Admission: Who Can Apply?

Eligibility Criteria for Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME Program

  • Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised board
  • Minimum 50% aggregate in PCM subjects
  • Medical fitness as per DGCA norms — no colour blindness or night blindness
  • Age between 16 and 28 years at time of admission

Career Scope After Integrated Aeronautical Engineering AME

Job Roles for AME + Aeronautical Engineering Graduates

With a B.Tech degree and DGCA AME License, graduates are employable across the full aviation ecosystem. India’s commercial fleet is set to nearly triple by 2043. MRO infrastructure and engineering headcount must scale at the same pace.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) The only professional legally authorised to certify aircraft airworthiness. Core role at all airlines and MROs.

MRO Specialist Work with India’s fastest-growing MRO segment at IndiGo, Air India, GMR, Air Works, or international MROs in the Gulf.

Aeronautical Design Engineer Leverage your B.Tech in aircraft structural or systems design at OEMs, DRDO, HAL, or ISRO.

Quality Assurance and Safety Officer DGCA compliance, airworthiness review, and aviation safety auditing at airlines and regulatory bodies.

Avionics Technician High-demand B2 stream role across digital-cockpit fleets and satellite navigation systems.
