DGCA Computer Number: What It Is, How to Get It & Why It Matters for Pilots (2026 Guide)

Your pilot journey in India starts with one number. Before you register for DGCA CPL exams, apply for your Class 1 medical, or enroll in any flying school, you need your DGCA Computer Number — the unique ID that marks the official beginning of your aviation career.

If you’re confused about what it is, how to get it, or what comes next, this guide covers everything step by step.

FMS brings a no confusion guide, just the exact process you need to follow in 2026.

What Is a DGCA Computer Number?

The DGCA Computer Number is a 10-digit alphanumeric ID issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to aspiring pilots who wish to appear for written exams under the Central Examination Organisation (CEO) of the DGCA.

Think of it as your permanent aviation identity in India. You’re allowed only one Computer Number per candidate in the Flight Crew category, and it’s valid for life.

Without this number, you cannot:

  • Register for any DGCA theory exam (CPL, ATPL, PPL, RTR-A)
  • Apply for a foreign licence conversion
  • Track your exam history or results on the official portal

The Computer Number is assigned across all pilot licence categories — CPL, PPL, ATPL, and Flight Instructor Rating.

DGCA Computer Number vs. eGCA ID: What's the Difference?

Many aspirants confuse the two. Here’s the clear distinction:

TermWhat It IsWhere You Get ItPurpose
eGCA IDYour login credential for the DGCA digital portaldgca.gov.inAccess DGCA services: medicals, licence applications, training records
DGCA Computer NumberYour exam registration identitypariksha.dgca.gov.in

Appear for DGCA theory exams (CPL, ATPL, PPL, RTR-A)

You need both. The eGCA ID comes first. Once registered on eGCA, you proceed to the Pariksha portal to apply for your Computer Number.

The eGCA portal is a one-stop shop for DGCA services. It replaced old, manual paper-driven processes. Every pilot in India must have an eGCA ID.

Who Needs a DGCA Computer Number?

Every aspirant planning to sit for a DGCA pilot licence exam in India needs a Computer Number. This includes:

  • CPL aspirants preparing for the six DGCA ground subjects
  • PPL candidates — personal flying licence applicants
  • ATPL candidates — existing CPL holders upgrading their credentials
  • Flight Instructor Rating (FIR/AFIR) candidates
  • Foreign-trained pilots converting their licence to an Indian CPL

If you’re a student doing your DGCA ground classes — whether offline at a centre like FMS or online through a question bank portal — your Computer Number is what links your exam performance to your official DGCA profile.

Eligibility for DGCA Computer Number

Before you apply, confirm you meet these requirements:

  • Age: Minimum 16 years
  • Education (for CPL/ATPL): 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised board or NIOS
  • Education (for PPL): Class 10 pass is sufficient
  • Nationality: Indian citizens need Aadhaar/ID; foreign nationals, OCI, and PIO candidates require a valid passport and must clear a DGCA security clearance

Students who did not study Physics and Maths in 10+2 can still qualify through NIOS on-demand exams before applying.

Documents Required for DGCA Computer Number Application

Prepare these before you start. Upload errors are the most common reason for application delays.

Mandatory documents:

  • 10th mark sheet (scanned copy — PDF or JPG)
  • 12th mark sheet with Physics and Maths (for CPL/ATPL)
  • Valid passport (mandatory for foreign/OCI/PIO candidates; recommended for all)
  • Aadhaar card (for Indian citizens)
  • Recent passport-size photograph — 35mm × 45mm, digital format
  • Digital signature

Technical requirements:

  • All files in PDF or JPG format within DGCA-specified size limits
  • Name on all documents must exactly match your 10th marksheet
  • Stable internet connection throughout the process

⚠️ Important: A mismatch between the name on your form and your ID documents is the top reason for rejection. Double-check before submitting.

How to Apply for Your DGCA Computer Number: Step-by-Step

The process involves two portals: eGCA for your identity registration and Pariksha for your exam identity. Here’s the complete flow.

Step 1: Register on the eGCA portal

Open https://www.dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/ and click eGCA Login / Sign Up. Always use the official DGCA website to avoid fake sites.

  • Click New User Registration
  • Select Aspirant as your user type
  • Enter your name (as it appears on your 10th marksheet)
  • Provide your mobile number and email ID
  • Upload your documents as specified

Step 2: Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA)

DGCA has added MFA security. You will receive two separate OTPs- one to your mobile number and one to your email. Enter both to verify your identity.

Step 3: Receive and activate your eGCA ID

Your unique eGCA ID will be sent to your registered email. Save this ID and password securely. You will use them throughout your entire pilot career.

Step 4: Apply for your Computer Number on the Pariksha portal

  • Go to pariksha.dgca.gov.in
  • Select Flight Crew – New Candidate Registration if you’ve never had a Computer Number before
  • Fill in your personal details accurately
  • Upload supporting documents

Step 5: Auto-generation

DGCA introduced auto-generation of Computer Number for Flight Crew (FC) candidates. This means eligible candidates no longer wait for manual approval, the system now auto-assigns the Computer Number on successful registration.

Step 6: Save your Computer Number

Once generated, your Computer Number is displayed on the Pariksha portal and sent to your registered email. Store it safely. You will need it every time you register for a DGCA exam session.

What Comes After Your DGCA Computer Number?

Getting your Computer Number is step one. Here’s what follows:

1. DGCA Class 2 Medical: Apply for a Class 2 Medical Fitness Certificate through a DGCA-approved medical examiner.

2. Enroll in DGCA ground classes: Begin preparing for the six DGCA CPL theory subjects.

3. Register for DGCA theory exams: Using your Computer Number, register for exam sessions on the Pariksha portal. DGCA conducts exams four times a year.

4. Class 1 Medical + Flight Training: After clearing theory exams, obtain your Class 1 Medical and enroll at a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation (FTO) for your 200 flight hours.

5. Apply for your CPL: With cleared papers, medical fitness, and 200+ flight hours, apply for your Commercial Pilot Licence through the eGCA portal.

It's the best aviation academy for pilot training. I enrolled a few months ago, and I can proudly vouch that no other academy teaches a correct attitude of learning and development. FMS not only focuses on concept clearance but also CRM skills and discusses Aircraft Accident Investigations to understand the roles and responsibilities of airline pilots at a very initial stage.
